Er...that doesn't quite work - it's Chris Wood, not Woods.

BBC radio has just confirmed Tom Levet is out of The Open next week.

Think the next alternate on world ranking is Bob Garrigus. If he also rejects a tee and Sandwich, then Tony Kim and Simon Dyson are standing by.

No, pretty sure it isn't...

Back to the news: Tim Clark has withdrawn from next week's Open. His place goes to Anthony Kim.

Quality Kim with the long hair is not the same person...

Maybe he'll keep it uncut until he wins a tournament?

John Deere leaderboard shows David Toms has withdrawn after nine holes of Round One. Drat.

Just noticed: likewise, Bob Garrigus.

Fantastic news !!

After NCG now get players dropping out left right and centre.

Perhaps Mt Garrigus wanted to get on his plane for some Open practice :?:

I do feel for him having to miss it although financially I dont think it will cripple him. Whereas my bringing him into 6 OFL teams to get scores of -2 MC, -2 MC , 6 , -2 MC mean that the sympathy is very limited.

At least Iwont have teh pain of feeling obliged to pick him next week...............I think I'll have a punt on Levet - he is in good form! :)

Colsaerts turns over scooter; Verplank waits

Nicolas Colsaerts took a spill on a scooter on Monday night, and may not be fit to play in this week's British Open.
"I rented a scooter last night and went into Sandwich but I went over the pavement and fell on my elbow," said the Belgian on Tuesday. Colsaerts entered the week ranked 71st in the world thanks in part to his European Tour breakthrough in China earlier this year. He also shared third place at last week's Scottish Open. "The elbow doesn't feel the best right now but we are working on the swelling with the physio. The only hope is I have a late start time on Thursday (2:54 p.m. local time) and that will give me a little more time to recover. I'm obviously a little low now but hopefully I'll be ready. ... I've been getting manipulation from the physio, taking anti-inflammatories and there's nothing more to do but to just wait and see how quickly I recover. ... If I play I'll play through to the end because I'm not going to quit after nine holes, that's for sure." The first alternate is Scott Verplank, who withdrew after one round of last week's John Deere.

Stricker withdraws from the BMW - no reason stated.

http://tourreport.pgatour.com/2011/09/16/stricker-withdraws-from-bmw/

Update: “Steve has been battling some neck pain the past few days and the discomfort became more severe today,” according to a statement by Jon Heaton of IMG, Stricker’s management company. “After consulting with his doctor he has decided to rest at home for a few days in hopes of regaining full strength for the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola next week.”

Looks like the OFL leader who transferred Stricker out of his team this week had some inside knowledge

1) Now the Tour Championship is settled, which of the US-based players is likely to continue turning out in at least half the remaining weeks this year?

2) And who is going to put their feet up or perhaps play in just one or two more events in 2011?

As an example, own team currently holds Kuchar, Day and Choi, a trio who are quite expensive. Would consider jettisoning one or more for a proven regular end-season player.

Happy, of course, to continue researching answers to both questions if there are stats online on previous year-ends.

Thoughts very welcome; thanks...

Further update on Stricker:

Quote:
Tests have confirmed that Steve Stricker has a herniated disk in his neck. The next step for the American golfer is figuring out what to do about it.

Stricker's agent at IMG, Jon Heaton, said Wednesday that an MRI confirmed the neck injury. He says Stricker is not feeling any pain, although he is weak in his left arm.

He says Stricker is consulting specialists and evaluating treatment options.

Still to be decided is whether Stricker is fit enough to play Nov. 17-20 in the Presidents Cup. U.S. captain Fred Couples has said if Stricker can't play, he would be replaced by PGA champion Keegan Bradley.

Not a comprehensive list but the following players played at least 3 of the fall finish tournaments last year. (Note the absence of 'top' players)

De Jonge
Byrd
Baddeley
Levin
B Davis
Garrigus (4)
Tringale (4)
Imada
A Price
Atwal
P Perez
Gay
C Wi (4)
DA Points

Not a lot to get excited about, a few of the rookies will be regulars with the occasional appearance of a top 50 player.
