2012 FA Cup Final on Saturday May 5th at 515

Premier league will end on Sunday May 13th

So for the SECOND year in a row, the FA Cup Final will be played on the same day
as Premier League Fixtures

Why? They had the "excuse" of the CL final rules this year but next year????

Was wondering that myself :?

The only reason I can think of is to possibly get the season finished earlier in preperation for the European Championships.

It is again down to UEFA !!

I looked back to 2008

The Cup Final was on Sat 17th and the League finished on Sunday 11th

Next year the Champions League Final is on
Saturday 19th

The Premier League needs the extra midweek so cant finish on the 6th

They should finish on the 6th, Cup Final on 12th, CL 19th.

Get the league sorted with extra games however they want, start the season earlier if you have to but don't wreck the FA Cup any further.

My thoughts exactly, Judio.

Can't see why they (the FA) can't just decree that there won't be any replays for the 5th and 6th (quarters) rounds, would give the league enough time to play out games without threatening valuable revenue to lower league clubs who get replays. Not that I think we should replays at all anyway.

Rendering the FA cup even more meaningless; anyone would think there is an agenda

Hope that there won't as easy a start for Chelsea, or any other top team, this year too.

If they must play the cup final on Saturday 5th May next year, they could keep it at 3pm and move the FULL SET of prem games to Sunday/Monday (it'll be a Bank Holiday weekend), hopefully that should avoid all the fuss we've had this week.

Can we add to the list the Community Shield as the curtain-raiser for the Premiership next season? Wembley Sunday 7th August, another Manchester derby. :)

Oh dear the FA cup final not being the last day of the domestic season yet again, how very poor.

Out of interest who's fault is that ?, the FA or a combination of the FA and Premier league or some other organisation.

I fear the excitement may have already got too much for some, as no one seems to have mentioned the shock news that there has to be a preliminary round in the Carling Cup this year

The norf/south split and how the seedings have fallen gives the increased chance of some potential derbies in Sheffield, Nottingham, Bristol, Essex and elsewhere.....

It is almost exciting.

To all those fans of 'Big' clubs, please have respect for the small clubs that make yours big. Quite a few fans will be anticipating this draw, eg Crawley, their 1st time in this competition.

When were the fixtures for the PL released last summer? Just thought that it might make a difference as to when FPL will be open for 11/12.

apalling, isn't it. Lifted from The Fiver last night.

Few outside the Euro 96 bandwagon-jumping set would disagree that the FA Cup is more tepid and tasteless than it once was. So how appropriate that the competition's new sponsor sorry 'lead partner' - is Budweiser. And that, in a stiff rebuke to those who claim the world's oldest knockout competition has not so much jumped the shark but trampolined over it performing a triple axel with twist, it will be officially known as 'The FA Cup with Budweiser' for the next three years.

At a press conference today, FA general secretary Alex Horne waded swinger-deep into his bumper book of middle-management speak, claiming the new deal with an "iconic brand" would help the FA Cup "to the next level" in "its global reach", adding: "We will see the FA Cup promoted around the world like never before, which is great for the fans!" Eh? Since when did they matter?

Meanwhile Budweiser who, as anyone who has tried to buy a decent pint at a World Cup stadium since 1986 will know have been the official beer of the World Cup for the last 25 years, were also excited. Jason Warner, Budweiser's global vice-president, yee-hawed: "We're looking forward to sharing our passion for the beautiful game, bringing the FA Cup closer to fans around the world through an exciting programme of activity!" Of the hand-to-pint-to-mouth variety, no doubt.

So it's come to this: weakened teams, the FA Cup final being held while the Premier League is still going on, and now the very real possibility of Ray Stubbs hollering "Wassup!" to hail ESPN's coverage next season. Heaven help us all.
