From the makers of Tour De FISO, comes a new creation.

Well my batteries are recharged after a couple of seasons off the side game circuit and I'm looking to run a very intricate, weekly decision making based side game based on the back 9 on Sunday at the US Masters.

I know there have been golf styled games on here before but I cant be bothered looking at them all to see whether my idea will have any new value - I am sure the veterans on here will set me right if it's been done before.

Every GW the elite 12 man field (all locked together at 8 under at the turn) will need to decide what shot they want to play given what they think their team can do. Can they manage themselves around the course, take risks when required, and hole the clutch putt.

This will be quite fluid as small GW's and Double GW's mean scores/results will have to be taken into account.

As an example, let's take Hole 10. GW1 is your tee shot. A choice of driver or 3 wood off the tee. Take the driver and you will have a smaller window of points to put it on the fairway....but an easier approach shot in GW2. Take the 3 wood for a better chance to be on the short grass, but get it wrong and you are a long way back with your 2nd.

GW2 will see the players either in A1 position (laced the driver into position), Good (a nice driver or laced 3 wood), OK (driver or 3 wood just not catching the downslope) or Nasty (Bad drive or 3 wood)

Each would have two alternatives for that GW with risk/reward choices.

Those on the green after GW2 can choose to simply walk away with 2 putt. Or they can putt for birdie...and risk a 3 putt. Those that miss the green will need to chip...the closer the better to the target score for the GW if they want to save par.

Hope that gives you a taste.

Like the Tour De FISO, luck can play a part....maybe there will be a lucky pts number that results in a hole out....or hitting the pin and rebounding into the bunker!

Each Par 4 will take 4 weeks, Each Par 5 will take 5 GW's, and each Par 3 will take 4 weeks....a total of 38GW's

As The Chairman I get to decide who gets invited so any players wanting to be in the elite field needs to post with 3 essential things.

1. A golfers name incorporating all or part of their poster name...extra credit for a connection to a past Masters Champion. Those who played the Tour De FISO will know what I'm talking about. :D

2. Their final World position in 2009/10 FPL

3. A little sample of their knowledge of the back 9 at Augusta....extra credit for originality.

That's it for now...will be interested in your thoughts

Just replying to say that no doubt there will be plenty of takers but those interested may still be trying to work out the rules

... I remember when I first joined FISO trying to figure out Viddle's Cricket game was a similar feat. (Didn't play myself but tried, unsuccessfully, to follow it).

I'm sure this will be a great addition Downboys - welcome back ... come FPLers show your support :P - the commentary on the Tour de FISO was in a class of it's own so this new games' creator has serious pedigree 8-)

IF you can't get the required number I'll throw my hat in - AKNel Cabrera.

Rubbish at FPL though

This could just be the greatest side game ever!

1. A golfers name

Tom Whateverson

2. Their final World position in 2009/10 FPL

7141

3. A little sample of their knowledge of the back 9 at Augusta

I'd love the oppotunity to show a few of those young whippersnappers that I still know Augusta National Golf Club as well as anyone.

The back nine you say...

I've always found the 10th a very attractive and underated hole. Then of course it's time to say my prayers. There's a smile on my face if I've safely negotiate Amen corner. The 14th is my type of hole. The undulating ground makes it feel like the links golf that I love, and no bunkers in the way either. The 15th frightens me but I just have to try to birdie it. The 16th is all about putting the ball of the right step. From there is should be plain sailing but it you're in the money positions in the masters the pressure can make you do strange things on the most straightforward of holes.

Here's hoping I make the cut for the 2010/11 FISO masters!

A side game is not a real sidegame unless the rules baffle me :D

I am in

1. A golfers name

Jason Knulpuktzon (I will be foregoing the extra point then!)

2. Their final World position in 2009/10 FPL

25,295

3. A little sample of their knowledge of the back 9 at Augusta

Well let be recount some tales of the 17th...

This is a fairly straightforward-looking hole but it is another where they have added extra yardage - 25 yards in 1999 and a further 15 for 2006.

We have Eisenhower's Tree in the middle of the fairway, named after Ike because the old boy always drove into it. It is a wonder he did not get a couple of his troops to go out in the night and saw it down, but he never did.

Once you get over that, you have got one bunker right in front of the green, just a few yards short, which catches many second shots. It is quite awkward to get at the flag, particularly when it is only seven or eight paces on the green. The green slopes left-to-right with a drop-off at the back right - once again finding the right distance is so important.

I will always remember the putt here when Jack Nicklaus won in 1986, the year Seve should have won really. Nicklaus holed that putt down the green. He came at nine o'clock into the hole and he must have been all of 12 or 15 yards away. It went in and he went on to complete a remarkable victory at the age of 46.

Also these are the trees associated with these 9 holes:

10 Camellia
11 White Dogwood
12 Golden Bell
13 Azalea
14 Chinese Fir
15 Firethorn
16 Redbud
17 Nandina
18 Holly

Azalea, 13th hole at Augusta National, Georgia, home of the US Masters
Par 5
510 yards

Amen Corner ends with the most beautiful hole at Augusta which boasts approximately 1,600 azaleas. An accurate tee shot to the centre of the fairway will allow a player to go for the green in two if he desires. The ideal drive is a bullet straight down the middle of the fairway but the fun begins with the approach shot.

Here you are faced with the dilemma of whether or not to go for the green which has a tributary of Rae's Creek boldly guarding the front and four sand traps eagerly waiting behind. The Byron Nelson Bridge is also located at this tee. Players must anticipate a rewarding bonus to the scorecard – or a painful moment in front of the cameras. Tommy Nakajima shot a 13 here in 1978.

Thanks Google

Less than a week before start of season and less than 12 posters showing interest, with large variances in past performances so........

THIS COMPETITION IS NOW FORMALLY CANCELLED

Good luck to all of you in the coming season, and thanks for your intial interest.

That's a bit harsh, you asked for 12, you have 11 & most of the 'better' players won't even start looking at teams until this week :|

oh that's such a shame......there was I, just about to throw my hat into the mix....

Now we'll never know if Nicola Faldo, Nicola Faldo (so good she won it twice!) could have done something better than
FPL 2009/10 - 1,403,500

or that the course is just SO pretty!!

Might you change your mind??

Sorry gentleman (or ladies) but the quality and interest just isn't there for me to put some serious time into it. Enjoy the many other side games on show here instead.

PS Where is the "Dingle" in Nicola Faldo? I shake my head in disbelief.

PPS AkNel1...if you ever make it to Perth feel free to make contact for a game of golf at Lake Karrinyup. :)

I guess I win the greatest side game that never was.

This needed weekly input. If no-one could be bothered to put a bit of work into their entry then clearly they would not put the effort into this sidegame over the season. A real shame that a mere 12 FISOers could not be found.

I don't really know much about golf, never mind the masters or what the back 9 at Augusta is like, but I like a round with some mates now and again & was thinking something along the lines of John Beerfuelled Daly had a ring to it.
