Looking even further ahead, briefly, to two seasons from now:

The 2012-13 football season will be put back by one week to accommodate the London Olympic Games which runs from 27 July to 12 August.

But FA Customer Relations state the FA Cup Final will be played on Sat 14 May 2011.

I think Sky wrote the fixture list for the first weekend.

Alex Ferguson certainly wrote it for the last weekend.

The European club qualifiers do not clash with the Premier League programme this coming season:
Judio wrote:
July 29, 3rd qualifying round Europa League, 1st leg (Liverpool start here)
August 5, 3rd qualifying round Europa League, 2nd leg
August 17/18, 4th qualifying round Champions League, 1st leg (Tottenham start here)
August 19, 4th qualifying round Europa League, 1st leg (Man City and Villa start here)

There's no midweek EPL fixture until November. Likewise, the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA World Club championships won't be distraction this year. So, for the first time in a decade or so, all 20 clubs should have completed the same number* of matches, week by week, until the League Cup Final and the late stages of the FA Cup next spring.

*subject, of course, to natural or other events, such as an oil slick flooding Man City stadium...

I think that this was a direct request from Sky

No Midweek games in August mean that they can have 2 Monday night Games

as they are promoting a return to Monday Night Football
