For those leading players who will be rested from the FA Cup 3rd round, and not involved in the CC Semis, there will be a mini, mid-season, winter break. Not a bad thing in a World Cup season.

Arsenal & Bolton could lag a game behind the other 18 for several months (ie, in terms of completed Premier League fixtures).

Arsenal are due to fulfil a Champions League qualifier on Tue/Wed 18/19 Aug so, assuming progress in Europe and both domestic Cup competitions, the first spare date in the fixture calendar for the postponed match against Bolton may be in February 2010.

If Arsenal fail to qualify for the CL group stage, they will contest the Europa Cup during the same mid-weeks as the senior competition.

If Arsenal and Bolton are knocked out of the Carling Cup, potential free dates are:
- Round Four: wk beg Mon 26 Oct
- Round Five (QF): wk beg Mon 30 Nov
- Semi-Finals (two legs): wks beg 4 & 18 Jan 2010

Man United will now count themselves fortunate that the did not win the Champions League.

There are 3 games in 7 days which they would have had to postpone !!!

Looks like the fixture changes thread could be very busy next year if this article is to be believed:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/ ... 525429.ece

The biggest issue may prove the “fixtures crunch” caused by extra European dates and the 2010 World Cup finals. Teams challenging on all fronts face punishing schedules that could force them to average eight games a month from December to April....Clubs still in Europe and the FA Cup will be desperate to avoid fifth and sixth-round replays because they will struggle to find a free night to play them...“Teams such as Everton could be playing big matches within three days of each other,” Ian Todd, the president of the Football Supporters’ Federation, said. “The quarter-final second legs of the Europa League are on April 8 and the FA Cup semi-finals are scheduled for April 10-11. “There could be a problem on March 16-17 because the date is shared between the Champions League first knockout round, second leg, and any FA Cup sixth-round replays.”

The Last 16 of the Champions League is scheduled over FOUR midweeks

That is so TV can show
Man U on Tues week 1 and Weds Week 3
Arsenal on Weds Week 1 and Tues Week 3
Liverpool on Tues Week 2 and Weds Week 4
Chelsea on Weds Week 2 and Tues Week 4

BUT that means Man U will have midweeks 2 and 4 to play any re arranged League games

There's not many frees in that schedule. Could be a very interesting season for fixtuer scheduling.

Prediction: Moyes et al to treat the Europa Cup like the Carling Cup by October...if they even make the league stages. Seems like a massive poisoned challice to a team's Premiership ambitions.

The AC Milan website has the following item so I would take it as following

MILAN - The Lega Calcio announced yesterday the dates related to the 2009/10 season. The next Serie A season will start on August 23 and will end on Sunday May 16, 2010. Four mid-week rounds will be held: September 23, Octover 28, March 24 and before on January 6, when the Christmas break will be over after the last round on December 20. There will also be three breaks due to national team commitments for the World Cup qualifiers of 2010: September 6, October 11 and November 15. (ANSA)

Thanks, J.

Channel 4 Football Italia says Serie A fixtures will be drawn up today, 29 July, with substantial changes to the schedule.

Starting from 17.00 UK time, the Lega Calcio will pick the fixtures for the 2009-10 campaign, which kicks off on Sat 22 Aug.

As with last season, Saturday will see a game at 17.00 UK time, with another at 19.45 rather than 19.30.

The Sunday evening kick-off will also be at 19.45 UK time and the remaining matches are all at 14.00.

Does anyone know when the play offs for european (UEFA) teams involved in world cup 2010 qualification will occur? Sorry if its already here, and I haven't spotted it. I want to know to see if it will effect any TFF game weeks.
Thanks.

Slot is shown in first post on second page of this thread...

The two-legged World Cup play-offs across various continents - not just Europe - will take place during the international break in November, probably on Sat 14th and Wed 18th.

And on the Saturday (assuming both countries qualify) England are flying all the
way to Doha to play a friendly with Brasil

In response to tm/J dialogue above:

David Beckham has pulled out of the England squad to face Brazil on Saturday [14 Nov] after the midfielder's LA Galaxy club reached the MLS Western Conference final yesterday.

Incidentally, the friendly, like Doha, is in Qatar not Oman...

There are a few threads - and some misinformation - across various FF sub-forums on the Africa Cup of Nations and its potential impact on league clubs.

Note that FIFA rules allow countries to call up players for a two-week training camp before the start of an international tournament.

As the next ACN runs from Sunday 10 to Sunday 31 January 2010, league clubs could be without their African contingent for five weeks from Christmas. In previous runnings, some negotiated with the appropriate country to retain a player until a week before the start of the competition (eg: Spurs - Mido - Egypt).

See first post above - second page of this thread - for club fixture dates in late Dec 2009 through Jan 2010. In theory, a player could miss up to a dozen domestic games in the Premier League, FA Cup (with replays) and Carling Cup semis.

Incidentally, the draw for the 16-team ACN tournament will be conducted in Angola on Fri 20 November.

Darbyand is referring to SamD's schedule above and that March-April picture is now starting to hove into view.

There is no slot in there I can spot for FA Cup QF replays - we do have them, this year don't we? There is a free mid-week 23/24 March but I presume clubs like Everton will have that earmarked for any outstanding PL fixtures.

Interesting note on Chelsea site

The date for our FA Cup 5th Round clash with Cardiff City has been decided, with the game taking place on Saturday 13 February.
The match will kick off at Stamford Bridge at 12 noon
If the result is not decided on that day, there will be a replay in Cardiff on Saturday 6 March, with a 3pm kick off, subject to TV selections.

So even though Chelsea are not involved in 1 of the 2 midweeks for the Champions League, they are still
playing the Replay on Round 6 Day... (EDIT I think England are playing March 3rd)

Cue fixture Chaos
