 Post subject: 2-stroke petrol garden tool engines?

I've just got a 2-stroke petrol strimmer/hedge trimmer/chainsaw tool (interchangeble heads) from Ryobi.

After the initial pain of getting it started from the not very clear instructions, it seemed to work well (in hedge trimmer mode). But after about an hour of heavy use, it seemed to keep conking out. Is this normal and just a symptom of overheating?
