I worked in Germany for many years and it's a little known fact that you don't pay income tax on night shift earnings over there. Think of the money you would have saved if you had been working in Germany.

3 and half years after my 17 year night stint, my sleep pattern has improved no end but still can't sleep for more than 4 hours in one go without waking up. I guess that must be down to all the times I used to get up after 4 hours to have a beer with you :)

You want to try my job.

Normal 37 hours (8:45 to 5:15)

Then once a week on call. You work your normal day shift, then start on-call 5:15 til 8:45 the next morning, then you start your day shift (you get the afternoon off).

Thats a 27-28 hour shift once a week and the on-call session is pretty constantly busy.

....and don't get me started on weekends.

40hrs per week. 8-4 & 14-22. One weekend on a month. Rostered On Call 7 times in 4 weeks. Add another 3 for overtime & covering others being off.

Nothing but nothing beats crawling into bed after a Nightshift... :D
