Saw this in Mens Health. A guide in building your way to 100 push ups straight and I'm giving it a go! Anyone care to join me?

You start with an initial test of how many good push ups you can do then that result starts you at a level and you follow the guide to a week by week thing to 100 push ups

My initial test was a poor 7 push ups.
I am now into my week 2 and yesterday did sets of 9 11 8 8 and a maximum of 11 which I achieved.

Anyone interested in giving it a go?

Good stuff CT.

My initial test result was 20.
I'll let my poor arms recover and then see how I get on.

This might even get The Ledge back at it  (The Ledge's press up thread.)

Not overly impressive stats 7.9.11.8.8. Chuck.

You look a bit disproportionate to me.

Is an erection hindering your total?

So the Ledge has bowed out of the challenge, fair enough, seems like dot and suzykins are up for it seeing as they haven't said no so i'll be interested in how they get on competing with skinny boy Chuck :D

I wouldn't air that my initial test results were 7 rubbish, barely bending of arms push ups, 7 proper push ups over a week ago, I now reckon I could managed 12-15 in one hit

I'm on board. Was originally following this plan and logging my efforts on the ledge's thread. Stopped posting as felt i was talking to myself but continued through till late april - last test i did i managed 42 consectutive with good form.

Then got a nasty bug/flu about 3 weeks ago. This lasted a week. But since then i've been bloody lazy only exercising once and drinking too much. With the first beach hol of the year now arranged i'll get back into this tonight.

Think i'll start with a test to see how far i've fallen!

So first 2 weeks done and had to do my first exhaustion test today, managed 22 good form push ups, thats quite good progress considering I managed only 7 two weeks ago!
So on Monday I start with reps of 12-17-13-13 and then a minimum of 17, I could see myself struggling there with only a minute or so rest time between sets!

I also did the 200 sit-ups initial test, managed 50 sit-ups even though I reckon I could of forced out 15-20 more, I stopped at 50 as my abs started feeling it and I didn't want to start at too hard a level first off.
So on Tuesday I start with reps of 21-27-21-21 and then a minimum of 30, I think i'll do better with the situps, I've always seemed to have stronger abs than arms and chest but the building up both and challenging against myself to do so should be fun.

UPDATE:

Struggled with week 3

DAY 1 : 12 - 17 - 13 - 13 - 17min (only managed 12)
DAY 2 : 14 - 19 - 14 - 14 -19min (only managed 13)
DAY 3 : 16 - 21 - 15 - 15 - 21min (managed 21)

I only managed 21 on the last day due to having 5 minutes rest after my last set rather than the recommended 1 minute, not sure how much the rest inbetween matters to the overall task but i'm sure it plays a part in being able to roll off the sets quickly in achieving 100 in one go. I'm gonna repeat week 3 until I comfortably complete it.

I like the look of this, so decided to try it last night. Skipped the max test feeling pretty confident my max would be between 11 and 20 at the moment. Should have done...

10 - 12 - 7 - 7 - max (at least 9)

Actually managed....

10 - 12 - 6 - 6 - 7 (max)

Hmm, thought the 10 - 12 - 7 - 7 - max looked doable. Obviously not as fit/strong as I thought I was. Day 2 tomorrow should be interesting.

10-12-8-8-12 at least
11-15-9-9-13 at least

lets see how I get on.

That's a lot of press ups

And I bet it was some little skinny guy as well

Had a go at this last night. Thought I'd be able to knock out 30 or so but only managed 20 before giving up. Might have to get on the plan.

There's a 200 sit up programme as well, plus a 200 squat one. They're probably more beneficial to me to be honest, but would be good to be able to do 50 or so press ups as well.

The key to these things is getting through the adaptive stage, where your muscles get the dreaded DOMS (muscle aches) for 3 days and you can't move. If you can stick the first 2 or 3 weeks it gets much easier.

Does anyone on here play "The game of life"?

That certainly helps in the press up's stake if you do...

The only person I know that plays that is "Yer Old Da", but he's long gone...

I'll give the sit ups a go.
Just managed 40  which led to my stomach cramping a bit after.
This puts me in the good category so I start at week 3 in the programme which is sit ups of 18-25-19-19 and then 25 minimum.
This will be tough.
On the alternate days i might do the press ups but i need to get up to at least a base strength first

There's a squat's one as well. Definitely worth a go. Squats are great all round exercises.

I saw that one asnd am tempted to give it a bash.
Sit ups are going ok now.
I'm onto week 4 and managed 75 sit ups as the max for day 2.
