A good start is to go to Comedy Store or something of that nature, where you get to see maybe 6 or so comedians do a relatively small set each, that way you really get to learn who, and what style, you really like, as like many things a lot of it is down to personal taste. I've been to comedy nights in London maybe 10 times or more, and have always had an absolute scream. Personally I prefer going in a big group, but again that might just be a personal thing.

It was a great show, kept getting told to shut up by The Woolstess from another room who was trying to sleep as I was laughing so loud.

Was surprised to see Jerry Sadowitz at 15. Have seen him and thought he was brilliant, but I wouldn't have thought he would be everyone's cup of tea.

Here is the full list http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/t ... sults.html

Tim Vine at 100 is the most unfunny comedian since David Badiel. Where was the great Rodney Dangerfielsd we ask! :(

Sadowitz is blisteringly funny and he truly does hate everyone. He still regularly does shows but prefers to do close-up magic interspersed with random musings based on his stand-up act. I last saw him do a proper standup act in Croydon about 2 or 3 years ago and I wish he would do it more often.

I have his video performance from about a decade ago but would love to get my hands on Gobshite, the now withdrawn LP he made. If anyone knows where it is (other than e-bay), can they let me know?

disappointed the great jerry seinfeld was not higher. pioneered a form of comedy which while not to everyone's liking has been followed by many since. likewise his tv program ... although thats off topic here.

Have to disagree. Tim Vine is one of my favourite comedians.

Each to his own, though

Its his magic show that I saw, and he isn't bad at that either, I was on the 2nd row and don't have a clue how he got the signed playing card into the melon :? .

He was very funny, and ripped the piss out of everyone from everywhere, especially people from Aberdeen. There was a couple of tourists on the front row who probably couldn't understand a word and he tore inot them. Cruel but very funny.

I would say I virtually never go to see stand up comedy but I've seen 6 of them live (although 3 are embarrassing to admit to).

Only non-embarrassing one in the top 90 is Ben Elton (back in the late 80s?) - and some fools may say i should be embarrassed by that but I'm not.
