suprised by two things on this thread - the joke by murf (surprised it was him) yes it was funny, wouldn't have done it myself and he has edited so not really a big problem IMO.
the (over)reaction it received, or more to the point, the posters reacting to it.

p.s. Frankie Boyle was the top man on Mock the week (not really that hard though) and been hilarious anytime I've saw him on tv. Do the Scots remember live floor show ?

Can't agree Barry,

I don't find it funny poking fun at someone who dies suddenly, think of the family he left behind, Tommy left his family very, very suddenly at the young age of 63,

My dad died almost 2 months ago very, very suddenly aged 63 and I really can not see the humour in it, maybe I'm too politically correct, but personally I think comments like Murf's are sick and completely tasteless

kenners, sudden loss is something I haven't had to deal with fortunately, and I did feel bad when I heard your news (why I pm'd you). the sad fact is we all laugh at sick jokes - apart from the one that hits our own "personal" nerve if that makes sense. Lockerbie jokes were ones I never agreed with (beacause it's so close to home) and as stated above this is a thread about comedians, most of whom thrived upon being laughed at.

Apparently, 1 in 5 people in the world are Chinese. And there are 5 people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my dad. Or my older brother Colin. Or my younger brother Ho-Cha-Chu....

...But I think it's Colin.

I think Tommy would laugh at murf's joke tbh.

There is hundreds of these... he should have been number one in the list...

So I was getting into my car, and this bloke says to me "Can you give me a lift?"

I said,

"Sure, you look great, the world's yours, go for it!"

Police arrested two kids yesterday, one was drinking battery acid,

the other was eating fireworks.

One more for me... not sure if it's TC or not.

I phoned the local gym and I asked if they could teach me how to do the splits. He said, "How flexible are you?" I said, "I can't make Tuesdays or Thursdays."

That is one of my favourite jokes of all time, pure class. RIP TC, a true legend and definitely should've been higher up the list!!

Would have expected Tommy Cooper to be No.1 rather than Billy Connolly who spends too much time laughing at his own "jokes" and can't put a sentence together without swearing. An over-rated comedian, but under-rated actor.

Nice to see Alexi Sayle high up the list as he's my personal favourite. :)

One thing i`ll suggest amongst the PC brigade out there in fisoland and that is to read Tommy Coopers book, your opinion might change a tad.Its a book that`ll open your eyes to his off screen personality, very interesting and well worth the read

A lot of Tim Vine's comedy is based upon a very similar play on words to TC's, though the style of delivery is quite different. Often, when just reading the gag, one would be hard pushed to tell one from the other.

""He said 'I'm going to chop off the bottom of one of your trouser legs and put it in a library.' I thought 'That's a turn-up for the books." - Tim Vine.

"So I went to the dentist. He said "Say Aaah." I said "Why?" He said "My dog's died." - Tim Vine

"It's strange, isn't it. You stand in the middle of a library and go 'Aaaaaaagghhhh!' and everyone just stares at you. But you do the same thing on an airplane, and everyone joins in." - Tommy Cooper

But, while their style of gag is often indiscernable, Cooper's onstage persona, the Incompetant Magician, was a joy in and of itself.
"Not like that .... like that! A-huh-huh-huh."

Never understood what i call 'English humour'. English humour is summed up perfectly by Little Britain. The most overrated programme to have ever been on tv. Just not funny at all. Was Matt Lucas and/or David Walliams in this top 100?

Care to elaborate, Hairybear? What else do you call 'English Humour' and why do you think that, like a lot of Scots humour in the past, it doesn't travel well across the border?
Obviously, the language barrier is a problem for the English, but there must be more than thet to it?

We can agree to disagree on BC but Little Britain is utter tosh (as well as not being stand-up). I quite like the Dennis Waterman sketch because it's so stupid but otherwise the program leaves me cold.
