With three games left (for single GW37 players), defenders are going to struggle to make up a points hit. If you take on Mertesacker, then he needs a clean sheet just to break even while Cahill then plays NOR followed by the final game lottery.

I'm not saying it's definitely a bad idea (I've been looking at Mertesacker, going for a goal threat, bonus and clean sheet potential), but there's very little time to make up the hit unless you bring in a City or Utd defender. If City had a nicer looking game this week I'd consider Zabaleta, especially if you had Terry rather than a playing defender like Cahill.

    It's a tight call though :?

Changing it to Mata as it turns out Silva is injured

  • Re: STC - RMT - GW31

It's weird really but the injuries and DGW are restricting our options, so I expect most teams to be quite similar now. Had you considered Hazard at all? I've been thinking if he might be better than say Nasri/Toure/Silva (assuming that Silva is only fit for one game in the double and Toure is not definitely fit)?

I'm in roughly 800th place, 4pts inside the top 1k and looking to balance attacking and defensive moves now. On FISO at least, I see people taking 4pt hits to get the same team as me (Rooney/Ramsey in) so I feel confident in taking a -4 for an attacking move on top of Rooney. My instinct says Mata with the DGW, but it could be Cazorla/Ozil.

I got ahead of the game a bit last week with Ramsey and Eriksen so feel like the next move (to Utd players) could be taken a week early as well. Like you my defence is pretty poor next week, but I don't think I can justify a hit so will have to hope for goals from Baines, Terry and Ivanovic. I think most are in a similar boat, with palace defenders on the bench so I don't feel too worried. Ivanovic or Terry  Mertesacker would be my pick for this week though I think if I did it, but I just don't think that over the three games that's worth a hit. A Man Utd defender seems difficult to predict with the new manager and no guarantee of clean sheets anyway with a presumed new attacking verve.

Zabaleta in for Ivanovic or Terry could be a call, with the extra game making it effectively a -2, would you do that?

Surely I must have 11 DGWs or as close as possible to have a chance right? United (DDG, Mata and Rooney), City (Aguero, Zab, Toure if fit, Silva wont play both), Would be a sure 6. Ramsey, Erikson, Suarez taking it to 9 with the 11th player more than likely being Ivanovic. Of course this would mean I have doubler Amalfitano and Chester on the bench.

    DDG
Coleman, Mertesacker, Ivanovic, (cheapo, cheapo who could play this week)
    Mata, Silva, Toure, Ramsey (amalfitano)

Something like that? You'd need a lot to go your way but that bets against his players while adding in your own.

Chris765 is the only survivor from Round 2.

His road to the final is:

    Code:
    Round 2    - Chris765         36    v  27   Themd01
    Round 3    - MARTYNWOOD (*)   3     v  4    Chris765
    Round 4    - ck luck (*)      15    v  52   Chris765
    Round 5    - Zimmerman        1     v  9    Chris765
    Qtr Final  - Maximo Monkey    14    v  33   Chris765
    Semi Final - hibee666 (*)     9     v  15   Chris765

And he goes into the final with 4 Arsenal players who will all score double points!

    Mignolet, Simon (LIV)
    Mertesacker, Per (ARS)
    Walker, Kyle (TOT)
    Azpilicueta, Cesar (CHE)
    Fonte, Jose (SOT)
    Hazard, Eden (CHE)
    Cazorla, Santi (ARS)
    Toure, Yaya (MCY)
    Ox-Chamberlain, Alex (ARS)
    Sturridge, Daniel (LIV)
    Giroud, Olivier (ARS)

Chris will be hoping that Hazard, Toure and Sturridge are all back for the 11th May.

But who will he meet in the final? The Bear (2nd in the 2011-12 DreamTeam Premium) or Chrispyb (the current FA Cup holder, 6th in the 2012-13 Elite League and currently 4th in the 2013-14 Elite League)?

    We'll know on Tuesday! :)

    17 Apr 2014, 15:33

Mav3rick, that's brilliant of you to offer help, thanks! Had suspected Utd and Tottenham would feature heavily.

Wildcard activated - currently looking at:

    Mannone (Gazzaniga)
    Mertesacker/Evra/Zabaleta (Dann/Baker)
    Ramsey/Eriksen/Coutinho/Mata (Ward-Prowse)
    Adebayor/Podolski/Suarez

Obviously going with a straight 11 and benchwarmers. Enough money banked to swap Podolski to Rooney next week. My other three conspirators were all keen to keep Suarez rather than Aguero. Will work with my free transfers to push double game week options.

    Captaincy likely to be Eriksen.

Am happy to accept any tweaking (or even any other radical strategies!). Thanks again.

We will now never know if Wenger would of left Arsenal at the end of the season, if his team had lost yesterday's semi-final. He still could, of course.

Arsenal are clear favourites but the first word in my mind when I saw this line-up - beatable.
First thought in my mind was they'll be losing when Giroud comes on to sort it all out.

I think a fodda -> DGW fodda 4ph would be my move if I was down to 10 if Terry was injured, certainly if I had only one Chelsea defender anyway.

If I had two Chelsea defs and was happy with my fodda (say a Hull def for the GW37 double) I'd actually be tempted to take a hit and go for an Arsenal defender for their run of

    West Ham (H)
    Hull City (A)
    Newcastle (H)
    West Brom (H)
    Norwich (A).

I'd certainly stick with a 'premium' defender rather than weaken the defense if I was getting rid of Terry, but again, I do think fodda -> Palace fodda would likely be the best route (Villa might actually be a good shout given they have a decent game this week and a double in GW37 too).

That's not a bad idea actually - save 0.2, get in Mertesacker's goal threat and decent fixture and hope. The savings might even allow me to upgrade AJ to Ramsey too :?

Thats the first time he's ever played there, at least for Everton, not sure about anyone else. Was a tactical decision to play him up against Monreal instead of Mertesacker. This allowed Naismith to play up front on his own who dropped deeper and dragged the Arsenal centrebacks out, which in turn allowed Mirallas and Baines to get behind the fullbacks and Lukaku run infield from the right on his favoured left foot. And generally cause havoc in the Arsenal defence which worked.

  • Re: Premiership team of the season
    02 Apr 2014, 7:47

My team of the season would be this:

Cech - least goals conceded in the league
Ivanovic - many clean sheets this season, also good attacking wise
Coleman - many goals for a right back this season
Mertesacker - without those few losses where Arsenal conceded big, they actually had a really good defence and I think it wouldn't be as good without the big German
Hazard - really important player for Chelsea this season
Silva - Actually might be someone else here as Silva did not play for some time, but when he does I think he is what keeps the Man City creative going - also he has 6 goals and 8 assists which is quite a good statistic.
Yaya Toure - the best midfielder in this season in my opinion
Gerrard - plenty of assists and goals this year and in my opinion what keeps the team chemistry together
Rooney - while United might be having a bad season, I think without Rooney it would be much worse
    Suarez - no questions here
Sturridge - 2nd leading goalscorer and he did skip some games too just as Suarez.

    Subs:
Boruc - I think without him the season would've started as good at it did for Southampton
Jay Rodriguez - plenty of goals, which helped Southampton to get into top 10
Baines - while I think this season might not be as good as Baines' have had some years ago, he definately is what keeps Everton's defence together and also has helped out with some goals. Would like to see more assists from him though
Lallana - I think he has become really better since last year and has a high potential for the future too
