Ok Ok- stop throwing food at me.
I did manage to swap him out quick though- and he got me 5 points up to the first window. A half decent score compared to many defenders at the time.
And I still managed to win the works league, so there:p -

Tricky - you think players want to win trophys - and of course they do - but how anyone can believe that players dont follow the money as the biggest single driver of player employment is beyond me. Its plain silliness.
Yes RVP will win more at Utd - but he has also more than doubled his salary!
He could have trebled his salary at City who were the current champions so money wouldn`t be his motivation, winning something more than the Emirates cup in his career would have though.
His main problem would have been seeing his team of 8 years being turned into a possible cup team and an also ran in the league team.
When you see players of the calibre of Squillaci,Park,Chamakh and Santos coming in then you know its time to go as they ain`t good enough for Lossiemouth let alone Celtic.
And you keep spouting utter rubbish that you can`t compete with other clubs over salary, yes you can,you just choose to waste most of your budget on total shit instead of paying that little bit extra for the likes of Mata and Hazard and others you could have had who win things in their 1st season.
Wenger has took Arsenal from Invincibles to also rans in less than a decade which is bad management -

No further movement at the top of the list for Barca after losing their champions league crown in 2012 [and almost certainly their La Liga title as well].
Barca's run has stalled after a second successive champions league semi final defeat, it doesn't look as if they will be going any higher up the list. -

£24m was good business for a 29 year old with 1 year left on his contract
He wanted to go to Utd - so we cant sell him to where he doesnt want to go - of course we'd have prefered to sell him abroad but you cant impose that on a player who holds all the cards.
Or you do can what Ferguson has done at Old Trafford, don't allow the quality of the squad to depreciate.
When exactly is the penny going to drop with you? RVP did not want to be part of club in decline, part of a club that had been selling its best players for years, part of a club that stockpiles cash yet keeps relying on crocks like Diaby, part of a club that pays £60k+ per week to donkeys like Andre Santos, Marouane Chamakh and Johan Djourou.
Yet refuses to reward its top players sufficiently.
Of course, you will say he had to be sold, because you can't bare to see any criticism of the way Wenger has taken us from serious title contenders to mediocrity in the last few seasons. -

And you try to imply that other foreign players were not hated, well try Drogba, Adebayer and El-Hadji Diouf for just 3.
Only one of those is universally hated like Suarez and that's because, like Suarez, he's a complete and utter scumbag - nothing to do with the fact they are foreign. -

and yes he became the most hated man in England because he did something to specific to warrant it (a bit like Suarez!!!!) -

What the whole post or just the fact that the media goes mental when Suarez does something but nothing when Chelsea players beat up ball boys and try to end referees careers?
There is the issue. You are comparing one player, Suarez, to a whole club. Chelsea have a number of players that do things to take issue with (Cole, Terry, Hazard etc) yet it seems that whenever Liverpool have an issue it is Suarez to blame.
Perhaps each case in isolation is not too big a matter (if you don't take issue with racism or biting a fellow human) but when it's the same player time and again and he obviously learns nothing from it then surely even Liverpool fans can understand the 'witch hunt' that follows him.
The thing is, I'm not a Liverpool fan.
I think Suarez has been hounded since he got here though, but as the most skillful creative goalscorer and creator in the league I think he gets targeted by jealous fans.
I never said you were a Liverpool fan

Please don't tell me it will be at The Emirates.
Someone already asked this, I can't see any eventuality where United will be given the trophy at Arsenal, they have 2 more home games after Villa, either will be when they will be presented with it.
The Arsenal players will probably give United a guard of honour if they win tomorrow night - happened at Chelsea in 2007. Except Fergie sent a shadow shadow side and they ended up honouring players like Dong who'd made zero contribution.
I think he'll send a stronger team to Arsenal though. Pity Santos has gone, he could have maybe carried RVP in on his back - he seemed pretty keen on him at the Old Trafford game. -

Got to be santos, looks a bit overweight, wanted Rvp shirt at half time, and most arsenal fans would rather play with ten men than bring him on for an injured player. Then sent out on loan never to be seen again. The worst thing is wenger signed him for a fair bit of cash. -

As much as Torres, Cisse, etc. have been crap, they haven't directly contributed to losses like Santos. Reina's still pulled off great saves, but I've never seen Santos make a match-saving tackle, just a match losing one. -

It's more that other clubs have moved forward in their scouting, Arsenal have perhaps stayed the same (gone backwards in france. I understand Giles Grimandi is chief scout in France now? Jobs for the boys?)
The worst three things in recent years are...
the refulsal to take a risk (thus losing at least one title)
the refusal to understand fans/players want silverware, it keeps fans happy and players at your club
the over paying and keeping of utter dross, the players rumoured to be on £60k at the club is scary and miss mangement plain and simple
Does Wenger have the same mindset with staff as he does with players? As in he wants them to have been inside his system long(ish) term so they understand how it works?
The other (just as important) problems are Wenger's stubbornness in playing to his 'system' and having no alternative plan to switch to, depending on the significance of the scoreline. As an example, if we were gifted an own goal, and a fluke early in a Barcelona away tie for a 2-0 half time lead. He would never change tactics to make us harder to break down and close out a result.
He would play exactly the same way to look to score again and probably concede 2 or 3.
When it comes to tactics, he is no Mourhino.
Secondly, the coaching of specific defensive formations, doing the homework of marking particular players at dead ball situations does it happen? You could have fooled me.
Thirdly, the sticking with players who are clearly inferior. Eboue, Djorou, Santos, Gervinho.
This can also be blamed for the fact there is no one to keep Szczęsny on his toes, to make him work for his position in the team, actually goes for a few positions. -

Reflections.
Well Arsenal got a more than fortuetous win against Villa yesterday infront of about 50,000 people although as per usual they gave the crowd out as an INCREDULOUS 60,079.
I watched "Football First" and Dean Sturridge was co-commentating and the first thing he said was "I have never seen so many empty seats at the Emirates before..you see it's not just me talking about it.
Wenger post match said they deserved their win, Lambert post match could not believed they had come away empty handed. Hansen post match, berated Arsenals deficiences defending- and felt Villa at the least deserved a draw. As i neutral i'm in Hansens camp. If they play like that next week Bale will score a hatrick.
United wrapped up the league in west london against the Mercenaries with a contender for goal of the month from Rafael, whose performance yesterday was as good as anything on show anywhere. RVP hobbled off but he will be ok .
Reading look doomed again they have used up all of their lives, and Wigan should of won by 6 or 7 in the end. Why Mcdermott refuses to start with their leading scorer is poor management imo.
Everton came unstuck suprisingly in East Anglia and there were so many similarities from last weeks blip against Oldham
Oldham held everything in their box that was wearing a white shirt(EVERTONS AWAY KIT) and equalised in the 15th second of the 4th minute of the 3 mins injury time that was due to be played.
Norwich (TAKING A LEAF FROM OLDHAM)held everything in a blue shirt in their box- especially turner, and got their winner in the 15th second of the 4th minute of the 3 mins injury time due to be played.
The only difference being this week Moyes got the hump (rightly so) and refused to shake the refs hand, wheras last week against the underdogs he was magnanimous about it all.
The PREDATOR- (Lukaku) contines to put in bamboozaling performances and i cannot fathom how Abramovitch didn't call him back last month or even let Sturridge go as both are scoring goals for fun. BBC, again in their wisdom, deemed not bothering showing in their highlights of the game LUKAKU,S opening goal, which shud of been given, but the ref pulled it back after he had scored and awarded a free-kick instead to WBA. Charlie Nicholas said as much during the game live on soccer saturday, and its all mentioned in the mins of the game on sportinglife, com.;thus robbing Lukaku of a potential hatrick.
I used to like Stoke and Pulis but i am going right off them now.
How can he start against Fulham with such a defensive make-up and attitude. He did it recently against Arsenal and now he is doing it against Strugglers Fulham. Pulis nowdays seems to play for a point in all away games. Its very negative and the Pom wont be happy having several teams riding high in the seasonal Sun comp that will be dropping tamely away as his defence is STOKE CITY in the main. Nzonzi shud of seen red and Pulis shud of been questioned about it and his slap on Ruiz or rather grab of the throat/head. Berbatov oozed class and fittingly his quality goal got the points. Nice to See him share the celebration with an ecstatic Joel (i like him too- shud never of been sacked by spurs)
Player of the Day...
3 players scored a brace today-
.
Carzola- who i thought got lucky on his first goal as he mishit his original shot, and the ball rebounds back to him giving him an easy second chance, with Girod and Wiltshire standing in offside positions, possibly impeeding the view of Guzan.
Pint of guiness-head, with a wonderful chipped second goal but a more than lucky first, coming off his chest a yard out- after caldwell had initially flicked the ball on with his arm.
And the Predator, who had a good goal wrongly chalked off, scored a pen, and had his persistance and energy rewarded with a fortuetous bounce back into the goal from Mignolets attempted clearance at point blank range.
so none of the above are my player of the day.
instead it goes to..
for the goal that gave Man United another title.. well done.
Chump of the day
well a few contenders
Nzonzi
Pulis
Fellaini
Moyes
McDermot
The Pig

It is very easy to buy success, but much harder to build (constantly) successful teams on resources much more less than the Manchester clubs or Chelsea.
I'd say its the wage structure thats part of the problem and really does need breaking, just not in the way you;d normally do it.
They've the 4th largest wage bill (I think) in the league but the pay the fringe players way over the odds and the stars* too little in comparison. The parity amongst all players is not doing them any favours, too much mediocrity on too much money.
*when they have them
But this true of all the teams outside of manchester clubs/Chelsea, we have to pay over the odds wages for average players in the hope they will become the next big thing (taking a punt on the grab a duck with a stick and hoping it turns out a winner).
As the bigger clubs are going OTT on the wages hence the average players earn in excess of 40k per week.
I think at one point Arsenal had 3 left backs on over 50K per week each (Monreal, Gibbs and Santos). Is that better or worse than keeping Ashley Cole at the time and paying him over 150K?
The answer is subjective, but you can't blame it on Wenger.
Our game is in such a mess because of the actions of Chelsea and Man City. -

That was panic buying at its worst, but honestly when would a manager ever badmouth their signings? -

But squad players are literally an entirely different matter to starters. Squillaci awful, yes, but Park and Santos were always intended just to step in for injured players -

If Arsenal were ever silly enough to get rid of Wenger or not offer him a new contract then 2 clubs would be waiting for him come the end of the season.
Real Madrid - When Jose goes
PSG - A return to France.
And I would bet he would not sell their top players and replace with dross like Park, Santos, and, Chamakh, while leaving millions unspent, so why is he doing it at our club?
Chamakh looked to be a success for a pretty reasonable period of time. Couldn't really put his laces through the ball but scored pretty often. An adequate stand-in for van Persie who simply seemed to lose confidence with a lack of game time. Park and Santos, likewise, were NEVER going to be our 'replacements'. They were always going to be squad players. I don't know if you legitimately believe this or not, but at least criticise the aspects of the club that are common ground
You are splitting hairs here.
Those players were brought to the club with the specific purpose of playing football.
Unless the underused Squillaci for example, signed within days of Gallas's departure has other strings to his bow, maybe he is in the club office, helping with the accounts. -

Until Wenger releases his autobiography when he is in his late 70's/80's we will never know if the decision to sell the top players and replace with those who are not the same quality was his or the board.
Would make very good reading if he ever releases one.
However if he was to join RM or PSG and start spending millions on world class players you could put that decision down to the board and not Wenger. -

Actually, I thought the question was how Wenger had let it happen (not having enough cover) The fact that TV played for Belgium in that role 2 years ago was not the point as it was said he is a pale imitation of his former self (it is claimed)
I'm personally in the - get rid of Santos as he would/should never be played.
Whether AW deserves criticism for leaving you short is another matter (I don't have a view) -

My point is why did Wenger get into a Santos or Vermaelen dilemma, with I suppose Miguel in the mix.
The issue is whether he has played at left back not captain
He has, does and will
Why did wenger "get into" a Santos v Vermaelen? He didn't - he off loaded Santos and bought a new full back - the problem is getting a top player in the window who isn't cup tied for the CL.
But we have adequate cover
