Sun DreamTeam Fantasy World Cup Cricket

CRICKET'S biggest-ever event, the 2003 World Cup, gets under way in South Africa on Sunday 9th February. Fourteen nations . . . 54 games over 43 days . . . but only ONE way to win a fortune! So put the misery of England's ashes tour behind you and join in the fun of The Sun's £50,000 Cricket Dream Team.

As with all The Sun's fantasy games, our Cricket Dream Team rules are simple.  You just select a team of 11 players from a list of 110 they've chosen. They score points for you based on the amount of runs they score, wickets they take and stumpings, catches and run-outs they bag during the tournament.  And you don't need to be a member of the Barmy Army to enter. The brilliant Cricket Dream Team website (at www.cricketdreamteam.com) provides in-depth details on 110 players, so it couldn't be EASIER. You simply select one player from the 11 groups of 10 so you have four batsmen, two all-rounders, a wicketkeeper and four bowlers. It really is a doddle - just make sure you don't choose more than two players from any one country! And if your team is not performing like potential World Cup winners, you can dump up to THREE of your duds during the mid-game Transfer Window and bring in replacements for the crucial closing stages.

The overall winner of Cricket World Cup Dream Team walks off with an amazing £25,000 first prize!  But there's MORE. Once you've selected 11 brave men to pin your hopes on, you get to choose which of the 14 participating nations you wish to associate your team with.  Your line-up will then be automatically entered into that country's league - so you take on everyone else who chooses that nation. At the end of the game the top scoring team in each of the 14 Country Leagues wins £500.  If that's not enough, you can also be in with a shout of a share of a further £1,500 by challenging your mates to enter a Mini League. And we've even got a mid-game prize of £1,000 up for grabs.  It costs just £5 to enter. And if you make five entries in one go, you ONLY PAY FOR FOUR! Closing date for entries is 12 noon GMT on Sunday February 9 2003.

TELEGRAPH FANTASY CRICKET WORLD CUP

There's £5,000 and a Caribbean holiday to be won in the Telegraph Fantasy Cricket World Cup.  To be in with a chance, select a team from the 14 competing countries and watch them score points for you with their performances in the 54 matches of the World Cup.  The first fixture is on Sunday 9 February.

Look out for details in The Daily Telegraph and online at www.fantasycricket.telegraph.co.uk from Saturday 18 January.

Subscribers to Wisden Monthly (the February edition was published on 16 Jan) have been able to review the rules and player lists beforehand.  These are summarised as follows:

Pick 11 players - 5 batsmen, 1 keeper, 1 all-rounder and 4 bowlers - from the list of 140 world cricketers.  Every player has a rating between 1 and 9 (1 is best).  The total combined rating of your team for the group stages should be 41 or more.  You can select a maximum of six from any one country, and make ten transfers during the tournament.

From the start of the Super Six stage on Wednesday 5 March, and through to the final on Sunday 23 March, the total combined rating of the team can be reduced from 41 to 25 or more.

Players can earn or lose points based on their runs, wickets, catches, stumpings and match appearances.

Each entry costs five pounds (£5).  Postal applications (e.g. the form in Wisden Monthly) must arrive by first post on Saturday 8 February.  For other entry options, please check the Telegraph.

You can also set up a Super League of five or more teams with friends and colleagues - so look out for the FISO Super League in due course.

8) Game Name: Straight Six

Provider: Fantasy Cricket Club

Summary: FCC has joined forces with Sporting Index to run an online

game based on the concept of notional spread betting on individual

player performances and other markets. With a bank of 5,000 Chips,

you must place a minimum of 6 notional trades between the date that

you enter the game and the end of the World Cup in order to be

eligible for a prize.

Sporting Index will provide live quotes for the majority of the

leading Batsmen and Bowlers participating in the World Cup, based on

their Total Tournament Runs and Total Tournament Wickets. These

prices will change continually throughout the World Cup in line with

the actual performances of those players. Additional markets may be

introduced by us later in the Game.

All you have to do is assess the prices quoted by Sporting Index and

take a view on whether you think a player will do better or worse

than the prices quoted. If you think the player will do better than

the price quoted, then you can "Buy" that player's performance. If

you think he will do worse than the quote, then you can "Sell" that

player's performance.

Telegraph Fantasy Cricket

The closing date for this year's competition is 10 a.m. BST Wednesday, 8 May 2002. The Telegraph has introduced a number of small changes this season but, in essence, you need to pick five batsmen, an all-rounder, a keeper and four bowlers from a list of 270 players.  Instead of the cash value-based system of the fantasy football game, cricketers are given a rating of 1 to 9 (where 1 is best).  The total combined rating of the selected XI must be 41 or more.

To view the list of county & international cricketers, as well as the registration form, log on to:

www.fantasycricket.telegraph.co.uk

Players score points based on the number of runs scored or conceded,  wickets taken and catches & stumpings made. Your chosen captain scores double.

The deadline for teams to accumulate points from day one is 8 May. The season lasts twenty weeks, and will close with the matches on Sunday 22 September.

The prize for the best selector is £20,000, and there is a separate £10,000 for the winner of the international-only contest.  The top superleague will receive £5,000.

A FISO super league has now been set up.  To participate, first enter your XI online and then use FISO SuperLeague PIN 8000082 and chairman's team PIN 5006244 to join over 20 (to date) other FISO teams in the super league. Should we be lucky enough to win the top Super League prize of £5,000 then this will be shared out amongst not only the top 5 but also all teams that have at least 80% of the points total of our top team - so finish within 20% of first place in the Super League and you could receive a payout!

The entry fee (including a super league entry) is £4 (or £6 if you wish to use the internet for transfers).

Please access the FISO cricket forum (click here) for initial news, tips on this summer's contest and full details of how the TFC Super League prize would be paid out. Reviewed 3 May 2002.
